Based on the Japan Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) assessments of the "21st Century Centers of Excellence (COE) Program" previously undertaken at our Graduate School (between 2002 and 2006), a decision was made to establish the Global COE Program here in 2007.
Our Global COE Program is helping develop next-generation information technology (IT) that supports the advancement of science in the forthcoming knowledge-based society. The focus of our GCOE program is on extracting the relevant and meaningful information contained in massive volumes of data occurring in the cyberspace as well as in the real-world applications.
Our program emphasizes collaboration of researchers in information and other advanced science fields based on the unique features of our Graduate School. Our in-depth, hardware-to-software, approach to the disciplines of information communication technologies promotes an ideal environment for the research and development of the next-generation IT technologies and helps bring up leading young researchers in interdisciplinary fields of information science.
The GCOE-NGIT 2012 symposium is intended to showcase all our GCOE program fields. In addition to presentations by our researchers, keynote speakers will be invited. This symposium will, therefore, be a forum for the creation and communication of interesting new ideas and collaborations.
